Firecat Projects presents “Contemporary Combines: Art Out of the Ordinary,” a solo exhibition featuring the work of Mixed Media and Portrait Artist ken WILSON. Juxtaposing bygone pinups with classic advertisements of popular culture and found imagery, only then does a more complex worldview come into focus. Mining from both cultural and personal terrain, the artist’s work combines nostalgic found photos often assembled with painted portraits and abstract color combinations to create multi-dimensional dreamscapes. Whether interpretations of friends, lost celebrities or dead rock stars, doors and windows are unlocked and isolated thoughts are reworked in a variety of mediums. These collages at first may appear sprawling and chaotic, but upon closer inspection reveal closely controlled and intricate compositions. Ordinary elements meant to be enjoyed and viewed as a complex puzzle…. like a long lost pulp paperback. A new history is slowly unraveling…
Exhibition runs August 26 - September 17 during regular gallery hours (Monday - Saturday from 10am - 4pm).
Join me for the opening night reception on Friday, August 25 from 7pm - 10pm.
